The internal combustion engine becomes history! Audi announced that it will become a pure EV Car manufacturer

2021-06-25

As early as March of this year, the German luxury car brand Audi announced that it would stop the development of gasoline or diesel engines, and will completely shift to the development and production of electric vehicles in 10 to 15 years. According to German media reports, starting from 2026, Audi will only launch new models of pure electric power in the global market and stop producing new gasoline, diesel and hybrid vehicles, but its new models launched before 2026 will continue to be produced. Sales. By 2033, Audi is accelerating the transition to electrification, phasing out the production of internal combustion engines, and achieving zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.

Audi executives confirmed the report. Recently, Audi CEO Markus Duesmann (Markus Duesmann) reiterated this goal at the Berlin Climate Conference. By 2033, Audi will phase out fuel engines. Marcus Dussmann said at the Berlin Climate Conference: "Audi is ready to make decisions and make great efforts to move towards the era of electric vehicles."

According to reports, the replacement of A3, A4, A5 and A6 will all shift to electric drive. A3 and A4 will not develop internal combustion engine models, and will be directly replaced by A3 e-tron and A4 e-tron in the future. A5 and A6 next-generation models will also launch pure electric versions. In April of this year, Audi announced that the new Audi A6 internal combustion engine version will be launched in 2023, and the A6 e-tron will be launched at the same time. At this year's Shanghai Auto Show, Audi has exhibited the A6 e-tron concept car. The new car is based on the PPE platform and is the second model of the platform. Audi's first model built on the PPE platform is the Q6 e-tron, which is expected to be launched in the second half of next year. By 2025, Audi aims to have more than 20 electric vehicle models in its model lineup.

As for the Audi Q8, a new generation of Audi Q8 will be launched in 2026. The car will be the last Audi brand model with internal combustion engine. At the same time, the Audi Q8 e-tron will be launched. The internal combustion engine model will continue to be produced until 2032. Audi will accelerate the transition to electrification, gradually suspend production of internal combustion engine models before 2032, and completely suspend production in 2033, and achieve zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.

China will play a key role in the development of Audi's electrification. Although Audi announced that it will stop developing gasoline or diesel engines, the aforementioned suspension of fuel vehicles does not include the Chinese market. Audi believes that there is still a demand for fuel vehicles in the Chinese market and will continue to be local after 2033. Chemical production. It is understood that FAW Audi currently owns three pure electric models, Q2 e-tron, Q4 e-tron and e-tron. Audi will further deepen its cooperative relationship with China FAW and jointly establish a new Audi FAW New Energy Vehicle Company. From 2024, the new company will start production of Audi pure electric models based on the PPE platform developed in cooperation with Porsche in Changchun. In addition, by the end of 2021, Audi will increase the number of domestically produced models to 12 through the joint venture FAW-Volkswagen.

In recent years, new energy has become an industry outlet. Many countries have successively introduced timetables for banning the sale of fuel vehicles and introduced relevant policies to support the development of new energy vehicles. Some car companies have also begun to respond to the market and announced that they will soon become pure electric vehicle brands. For example, the British luxury brand Jaguar previously announced that it will become a pure electric vehicle brand in 2025 and will only produce and sell electric vehicle products. The Swedish luxury brand Volvo announced that it will be fully electric in 2030 and will only sell electric cars by then.

At present, brands including Tesla, NEO, XPeng, BYD and other brands are gradually exerting their strength in the field of electric vehicles, and sales have already accounted for most of the market. Under the extremely radical electrification development strategy, many traditional car companies have begun to accelerate the deployment of new energy vehicles, and cross-border vehicle manufacturing has also become a major change in the current automotive market.

According to data from the China Automobile Association, the production and sales of new energy vehicles in the first five months of this year were 967,000 and 950,000, respectively, an increase of 224% year-on-year. As of the end of May this year, the number of new energy vehicles in my country was about 5.8 million, accounting for about 50% of the total number of new energy vehicles in the world. Fu Bingfeng, secretary-general of the China Automobile Association, said that China's new energy vehicle sales will grow at an average annual rate of more than 40% in the next five years, and the proportion of new energy vehicles will increase significantly in 5-8 years, reaching 20%-30%. From the perspective of the industry, new energy vehicles will show a trend of continuous upward development.
