At present, the two largest markets for Tesla in the world are the US market and the Chinese market. The cumulative sales of Tesla in China from January to May 2021 were 128,588, accounting for 46.51% of the total global sales. Sales in the Chinese market account for nearly half of the total global sales, which means that nearly half of Tesla's products are purchased by Chinese consumers, which indirectly reflects the importance of the Chinese market to Tesla.


SAIC-GM-Wuling is second only to Tesla, with cumulative sales of 161,610 units from January to May 2021. The main product is Hongguang MINIEV. As a product that is positioned as a mini car, Hongguang MINEV has been paid attention and favored by consumers after it was launched, and has been ranked first in the domestic market for many months in new energy models. Statistics show that the cumulative sales of Hongguang MINIEV from January to May 2021 are 152,667, which is only 20,000 units behind the number one Tesla Model 3. Of course, although Hongguang MINIEV is not much different from Tesla Model 3, Tesla is a global brand that not only relies on the Chinese market, but also includes the United States, Europe, Japan and other markets. Volkswagen ranked third, with global sales of 118,856 new energy vehicles in the first five months of 2021. Volkswagen mainly relies on two electric vehicles, ID.4 and ID.3, with sales of 26,271 and 23,939 respectively in the first five months. Compared with other new energy vehicle products, the sales volume of Volkswagen ID.3 and ID.4 is still relatively low, with an average monthly sales volume of about 5,000 vehicles. When it comes to major markets, the monthly sales volume is actually about 1,000 vehicles. Of course, it should be noted that the time for these two electric vehicles from Volkswagen to be on the market is not long. Coupled with the current shortage of semiconductor chips, the unoptimistic performance of these two products is understandable. At present, Volkswagen has already listed ID.4X and ID.4 CROZZ in China, and Volkswagen ID.6 and Volkswagen ID.3 will also be introduced into the country in the future.

In addition to Tesla, SAIC-GM-Wuling and Volkswagen, BYD and BMW also sold more than 100,000 new energy vehicles, 110,427 and 105,419 respectively. In terms of specific products, BYD Han`s EV sales in the first five months were 32,865, ranking fourth, and BMW 530e/Le was 22,441, ranking sixteenth.

The sixth to tenth brands are Mercedes, Volvo, SAIC, Audi and Peugeot. The sales of these brands are 88,186, 75,763, 73,086, 60,764 and 49,661 respectively. Since then, the sales gap between the brands is smaller, with 48,661 units for Kia, 48,627 units for Renault, and 43,960 units for Toyota. Skoda is at the bottom of the list.
